Merz Farm Equipment celebrates over 70 years in business
Merz Farm Equipment has been in business for over 70 years. In 1953, Nelson Merz purchased the local Ferguson tractor dealership in Falls City, Nebraska. From that point on it has been family owned and known to be a one-stop shop for farming equipment. Nelson built the business by placing emphasis on its customer’s needs and goals. Nelson’s three sons, Dennis, Gale, and Bruce took over the family business with help from their sisters. Together they built a shop unsurpassed in the ag machinery industry and offered knowledge to make sure the customer gets exactly what they need. Today, Bruce operates the family business along with his son Mitch and daughter Nicole. “The Merz family is proud of their employees and treats them like family,” Bruce said. Bruce is the youngest member of the second-generation Merz family involved in the business. Bruce worked various jobs within the business throughout his youth but officially started in 1973. “I am always available to help customers – no matter what day or time it is. Customer service is the main focus,” Bruce said. Years of Massey Ferguson knowledge allow him to understand the entire product lineup. Outside of work, Bruce enjoys tractor pulling. He enjoys working on his own pulling tractor as well as attending tractor pulls. He is also involved with his community and church. He and his wife, Pam, have three children and two grandchildren. Mitch Merz represents the third generation of Merz Farm Equipment. Mitch worked various jobs within the business during his youth – just as the previous generations had – and officially moved back to the family business in 2009. He is continuing the Merz way of business, providing a top-tier product with a focus on customer service. Mitch is very involved in the church and community as well, serving on boards including FFA Alumni President and the University of Nebraska Extension Board. Nicole Merz Witt represents the third generation of Merz Farm Equipment. Nicole helped in the office throughout her youth. She came home to the family business in 2013 after completing her accounting degree. Merz carries the following equipment: Massey Tractors, Massey Combines, Gleaner Combines, Hesston Hay, White Planters, Sunflower Tillage, AGCO Power Bobcat, Brent Grain Cart, Unverferth, Rhino, Westendorf, Ferris, and Grasshopper.
