Chuck Vaughn, general manager, said the farm and garden supply company moved from a store on Lake Avenue to a larger building on the North Belt Highway that was formerly occupied by Mosaic Life Care and the store Venture.

The new location is 60,000 square feet in supply space.

Vaughn said the new store allows Orscheln to offer customers more products.

A new section of the store called Orscheln Outdoors offers hunting, fishing, camping and other associated sporting good items. It will offer RV and boat supplies for the first time.

He said they offer a variety of fishing equipment such as rod-and-reels and bait. In addition, they will sell firearms and safes.

“We have nightcrawlers as fish bait and we’re looking at maybe getting shiners here as well,” Vaughn said. “We’ve got quite a few lures. We also have bait casting for channel catfish and we have fly-fishing equipment which a lot of places don’t have.”

They also offer sports wear for hunting and fishing such as clothes by Huntsworth, Big Tine, Reel Life and American Fishing Tackle Company.

Orscheln Farm & Home, which is based in Moberly, Missouri, offers a brand line of products.

Vaughn said the company is expanding its line of pet supplies including dog food.

“We just started a new dog food about a year ago called Farm Table that’s made by Cargill,” Vaughn said. “They make our dog food for us. We’ve got a grain-free version of that food as well. We’re expected to soon have a cat food line.”

He said Orscheln offers cattle, hog, horse, goats and sheep feed. They also sell salt blocks and mineral tubs for cattle.

He said they have displays of clothes including a Carhartt shop and Ariat shop along with four rows of boots.

“We have items for youth and families,” Vaughn said. “This is the first time we’re carrying youth boots. We have houseware and home décor items as well.”

Their toy section offers products from Big Country Toys and Breyer Western Horse and Rider.

Orscheln Farm & Home is located at 137 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph. They can be contacted by phone at 816-238-0711.
