A meat locker recently opened in Nodaway County that works with local livestock producers.

Kim Wells and her husband Steve Wells opened Barnard Processing as a meat locker in August.

She said they plan to add a retail store in Barnard, Missouri, by the end of the year.

“We plan to carry products from local farms and meat that we butcher,” Wells said. “We already have farm families that have signed up and we are open to more suppliers.”

She said they hope to offer eggs, cheeses and limited produce at the store front.

Wells said the locker currently restricts livestock to beef and pork.

In addition, she has partnered with the owners of a store that will open in December in Kansas City, Kansas. The store Wells Locally Sourced Meats is located in the Strawberry Hill area.

“It has a meat counter from family farms along with deli and cooked foods available,” Wells said.
