The Hearthside Country Store in Sabetha, Kansas, changed ownership this year but will keep the same products offered to customers. Steve and Lisa Oom are the new owners of the store. They purchased the business from her Aunt Beverly and Uncle Elvin Goodman along with their partners Dennis and Dorothy Goodman. They had managed the country store for 23 years. Lisa Oom said the store offers bulk and specialty food products along with kitchenware items. She said they have unique spices such as whole star anise and food ingredients like citric acid and lecithin that can be used by people making food from scratch. In their kitchenware section, they sell Norpro kitchen utensils and gadgets along with NordicWare baking pans. They also sell Rada Cutlery which packages quality knife sets. “I have a big selection of NordicWare with lids,” Oom said. “We have cookware for your grill such as vegetable baskets. We also have a huge selection of cookie-cutters, decorations for cookies, cupcake mixes and cakes.” She said they also carry gluten-free, diary-free and sugar-free food items. Their gluten-free line includes pastas, flours, cereals, pizza crust and frozen breads. “We try to cater to people with dietary needs,” Oom said. “We also have a line of items for those on the keto diet which is popular.” The store takes preorders for bulk seasonal fruits such as apples, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, apricots and pears. Apples can currently be purchased in a bushel or half-bushel. “This winter items include pumpkins, decorative squash and straw,” Oom said. “The store is also currently selling colorful fall mums and decorative gourds.” She said the business has coconut and avocado oil along with almond butter. They also offer a line of Frontier soup mixes. “Many of the soups are gluten-free,” Oom said. “They are healthy gourmet soup mixes with no added preservatives.” Hearthside Country Store is located at 2494 200th Road in Sabetha, Kansas.
