Scotwood Industries Inc., located in Overland Park, Kansas, is offering a dust control program on gravel roads in counties in Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri. Sarah Puleo, bids and marketing manager, said they can supply the product and apply it. She said the program helps with road maintenance and improves road stability. “We use a magnesium chloride solution that is water-based, odorless and non-toxic,” Puleo said. “It’s a product we spray onto the gravel roads that binds the gravel particles together. It stabilizes the road and it reduces the dust significantly.” Puleo said the business is offering a program for residents that would like to apply for dust control on a relatively small piece of road.

Puleo said the business is offering a program for residents that would like to apply for dust control on a relatively small piece of road.

“We provide customers full truck load pricing even though it’s a small job,” Puleo said. “A resident can apply the product on 300 feet or more of road and still get the cheaper pricing. A landowner or group of landowners may choose to pay us directly.”

Puleo said landowners do need to get permission to have dust control applied on a public road through the county, township, city or road district. She said the road will likely need to be graded prior to the treatment.

The deadline for landowners to apply in most counties is May 3.

During the winter, the business also supplies de-icing products to state transportation agencies. They offer the product in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois.
